Extra funding for Mid Ulster's foodbanks

The financial boost follows an allocation of further funding by the Department for Communities (DfC) to support the most vulnerable people and those most severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with Mid Ulster Council distributing the money to 10 local food banks.

“Food poverty is a reality and one which has been thrown into stark relief by the impacts of the pandemic,” said the Chair of the Council Councillor Cathal Mallaghan.

“We cannot underestimate the hardship in our communities and what it means not to be able to eat and to watch those you love go hungry.

“This money is going directly to those organisations working tirelessly on the ground right across Mid Ulster to alleviate food poverty over the Christmas period and into 2021.

“I thank all of the staff and volunteers in every organisation who are making a very real difference to local people’s lives and encourage anyone, if they can, to donate to one of the many Christmas appeals which will help to make someone else’s Christmas that little bit brighter”.

Organisations to receive funding are Dungannon Vineyard Foodbank, Dungannon SVP, Magherafelt Hope Foodbank, Magherafelt SVP, Cookstown Foodbank, Cookstown SVP, Coalisland Foodbank, Coalisland SVP, Clogher Valley RBL Food Bank, Maghera Foodbank and Maghera SVP.
