Family friendly event marks National Parents Week

LOCAL parents and children in Colin are invited to celebrate National Parents Week with a series of free family friendly community events.

Parents Week in Colin will begin on Saturday October 27 with a ‘Family Fun’ event at Cloona House in Poleglass where there will be pumpkin carving, face painting, and jewellery making. Throughout the week there will also be an Autumn Activity Fair, Parent and Child Fun Days, Outdoor Scary Storytelling, Baby Dance as well as Halloween arts and crafts workshops, winter gardening, cooking sessions and much more.

As always, Parents Week in Colin will feature the much anticipated Colin Halloween Parade and Enchanted Evening in Colin Glen Forest Park. The Halloween Parade assembles on Monday, October 31, at 6.45pm at the Dairy Farm Shopping Centre Car Park on the Stewartstown Road and will make its way to Colin Glen Forest Park for the Enchanted Evening. Here, children and families will experience the forest park transformed into a magical world of ghosts and ghouls with spooky storytelling and fire-breathers.

Speaking of Parents Week, Chris Millar, Family Worker at Colin Neighbourhood Partnership said: “Parents Week in Colin is a great time for local families to get together and just have fun. Children love it when parents spend time with them, they value even the simplest moments with their parents. In keeping with the theme of this year’s National Parents Week we are asking local parents to ‘Make a Moment’ and spend some quality time with their children, and just have some fun, at one of our free family friendly events.

“There is something for all family members this Parents Week. For toddlers we have Parent and Child Fun Days and for older children we have our annual Halloween Parade. We are really pleased about our programme of events and we are hoping for a great turn out. Each year we get fantastic feedback from everyone who gets involved in Parents Week and we want as many families as possible to come and enjoy the free events and activities we have on offer this year.”
