Green light given for new factory

The new factory building is for Specialist Joinery Group on the Coleraine Road, Maghera.

It will be approximately 2,700sqm and will be associated with the existing business adjacent to the current site.

It is anticipated the development will create 30 additional jobs.

Full Permission was also given for the development of 11 detached dwellings in Magherafelt, with private amenity space and landscaping.

Six dwellings will access onto Fern Drive and five onto the Tobermore Road.

At the same meeting, Outline planning permission was also granted for a new 20-bed hotel between the Glenshane Road and Fallagloon Road, Maghera.

Whilst a future planning application with more detailed plans will still require approval, the proposed hotel would see the creation of many jobs in the area and would be ideally situated for the key tourism areas of Belfast, Derry and the Causeway Coast and Glens area.

Chair of the Planning Committee, Councillor Sean McPeake, welcomed the decisions.

He said the district has the fastest growing population of the 11 councils.

“As a Planning Committee we have a vital role to play in helping to support strategic and sustainable economic growth here. In passing such significant developments such as additional new factory space for the long established family company Specialist Joinery Group and a new hotel for the district, we are doing just that,” he said.

“These developments are crucial to allow our local economy to continue to grow while also creating additional jobs for local people in Mid Ulster.”
