Helen recognised for promoting safer travel health

HELEN Johnson from Gilford has received an award at the RCN Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Awards 2012.

Organised by the Royal College of Nursing, this is the 16th year of the awards, which took place at the Culloden Hotel, Holywood.

Helen was runner-up in the Public Health Award sponsored by the Public Health Agency and HSC Board. A Travel Nurse Specialist based at Lisburn Health Centre in the South Eastern Trust Area, Helen was recognised for her work in promoting safer travel health. The judging panel commended Helen’s passion, enthusiasm and expertise, as well as her ability to seize opportunities to improve and develop the service she provides.

Three nurses working at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust also received awards. Carol Patton, British Heart Foundation heart failure specialist nurse won the Transforming Care with Technology Award, sponsored by TF3 consortium, while Ann Butler, a senior nurse in the Southern Trust, and John O’Grady from the HSC Clinical Education Centre, won the Bamford Vision Award for Mental Health and Learning Disability. Fiona Patterson, a Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist at the Southern Trust was commended in the Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Award.
