This year’s Remembrance Sunday events were scaled back due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with gatherings limited.

Events took place at memorials across the borough, including Carrickfergus, Larne, Whitehead, Glynn, and Ballycarry, where riders from Dalways Bawn Equestrian Centre paid their respects to the fallen at the cenotaph.

Conducting worship at the war memorial in Carrickfergus on Sunday morning was Rev Richard Graham from Joymount Presbyterian Church.

Larne’s service was conducted by Rev Paul Reid, chaplain of the local branch of the Royal British Legion.

Commenting on Facebook after the service, Larne branch secretary Robin Brown said: “We would like to thank everyone who participated in our acts of remembrance at both Larne and Glynn.

“Everyone was socially distanced, [and] both the services and wreath laying went well given these difficult times.”

The Royal British Legion this year encouraged those unable to take part in Remembrance services and events to “play their part from home” by observing the two minute silence from their doorstep at 11am.

Meanwhile, a sponsored walk in memory of the late chairman of Carrickfergus Royal British Legion has raised hundreds of pounds for the Poppy Appeal.
