Deputy Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Cllr Noreen McClelland said: “International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

“The theme for this year is ‘Choose to Challenge’ – and it is an action that we can all take to challenge gender inequality around the world.

“There is no doubt that women play a critical role in society and are vital in establishing workforces that are essential to the betterment of our economy.

“Our borough is blessed with many inspirational women who contribute so much to everyday life throughout our communities.
