Janet, who works part time for the Methodist Church, raised the money for ten partners of the church’s World Development and Relief agencies.

The Portadown woman said she was moved to do something on hearing that during the COVID-19 pandemic the Wenchi Hospital in Ghana had managed to raise money for a second hand ventilator.

“Although COVID-19 has not been widespread in Africa, my fear is for those in shanty towns where social distancing would be impossible,” she said.

And so the mum of four and her faithful dog Heidi began a 13 mile walk each day to raise vital funds for the charity.

“I walked mostly between our churches in Portadown,” said Janet, who works with and attends Thomas St Methodist Church.

Backing her all the way were her husband Chris and sons Michael (18) and Jack (14) as well as members of the local churches who came to meet her and offer moral support as well as a cup of tea.

The 51-year-old’s achievement is all the more remarkable as she has just recovered from Plantar Faciaitus - a debilitating foot complaint.

Despite this, both Janet and Heidi treked 27,000 steps a day for ten days to raise funds for the charity.
