Join Lisburn man Stewart Barbour in Wallace Park to raise vital funds for cancer charity

Nothing is slowing down the Lisburn man Stewart Barbour. 2026 has only just begun and the one-man fundraising juggernaut has already eyed up his next challenge, and he wants as many people as possible to join him.

Having raised over £70,000 for Cancer Focus NI with unique and tough challenges, including walking over 600 miles through the most populated towns and villages in Northern Ireland, 400 miles from Mizen Head to Malin Head and over 500 miles around the entire perimeter of Northern Ireland, his next challenge is one that he doesn’t want to do alone.

Taking place in Wallace Park, Lisburn on Sunday March 22, the 5K challenge is for runners, walkers, and steppers of all abilities who are keen for a fun day out for an amazing cause.

There will also be spot prizes on the day for those who dare to take on the teal and dress in Stewart’s iconic outfit - extra points for teal hair.

Stewart eagerly looks forward to his first official event with Cancer Focus NI, he said: “I am delighted to be hosting this 5K event on my home turf of Wallace Park.

"I am very honoured that the charity came up with the idea and I do park runs anyway.

"I do a lot of fundraising for Cancer Focus NI.

"I run about and do all the things I do but I am just an old man staggering about the place!

"It’s not about promoting me, it’s all about promoting the charity.”

Stewart is used to running solo but he is hoping this time crowds of people will turn up to join him at the Wallace Park event.

"I’m scared stiff there’ll only be myself and a handful of people there,” he admitted.

"I just hope it’s successful and that those who come enjoy the fun.

"I am looking forward to talking to all of the people who come and I always try to thank as many people as possible.

"I am just hoping I can get a big crowd and make it worthwhile from the charity’s point of view.

"I look forward to hopefully seeing old supporters who have cheered me on over the past few years, along with new supporters who I hope are going to help me get closer to that £100K target.

"It’s going to be a great afternoon, and a way to get out for some fresh air and fun, all while raising funds for a fantastic cause.”

James Barbour, Events Manager at Cancer Focus NI talks about why this event for the charity is particularly special.

He said: “Stewart has clocked up an impressive number of miles through huge challenges that have had plenty of ups and downs including, and unsurprisingly, unpredictable weather, but he persevered.

"Stewart’s fundraising has already provided local people with over 1,270 hours of a range of services including family support, counselling, support groups, specialist bra and swimwear fitting, nurseline and patient driving services.

"With your help, he can make an even bigger impact on the lives of local people and their families dealing with cancer who are in desperate need of support.”
