Joiner John brings festive cheer to neighbourhood

As the year of COVID-19 comes to an end, a Portadown father has decided to brighten up his neighbours’ lives with impressive Christmas decorations.

John Haddock said he wanted to brighten up people’s spirits at his Westland Road home and has gone all out on the exterior decor.

A joiner, John has been lighting up his home for around nine years adding bits and pieces very year.

He said: “This year has been a real downer for everyone.”

“I wasn’t going to bother putting any up until a lot of people gave me the guilt trip,” he said laughing.

With his wife Crystal, they have four children Abi, 16, Sami, 13, Reece 10, and two-year-old Harpur.

His only son Reece has autism and attends Ceara School in Lurgan.

“The bigger girls said to me that I’ve always done it for them so I have to do it for Harpur,” said John.

“So I decided to just go for it and hopefully it will brighten up people’s spirits around our estate and also everyone else.”

“I have even added Christmas music this year playing as the lights go on every night,” he added.

“We’ve had cars and people stopping every night and taking photos so it looks like people are enjoying it.

“Even kids on the first night came over taking videos etc.

“That’s what makes it all worth while to me,” said John.
