Larne teachers to take on swimming challenge for mental health charity

A group of kindhearted staff from Larne High School will be taking on an icy swimming challenge to support the work of a suicide prevention charity.

The 12 members of staff have pledged to go swimming in the sea at Ballygally on February 20 to raise money for Every Life Matters (ELM) NI: Suicide Prevention charity.

Commenting on the generous effort, a spokesperson for the Sallagh Park school said: “The last year has been very difficult for many people. The staff of Larne High School recognise that lockdown, Covid-19, exam uncertainties and remote learning have caused a lot of stress for many.

“We want to be able to support the work of ‘Every Life Matters’, a local mental health and suicide prevention charity who have worked hard to support people in Larne for years.

“Every Life Matters’ have been an important part of the local community and played a vital role in the lives of many.

“The difficulties of the last year have seen many people turn to ‘Every Life Matters’ for the first time, and as a school we want to help them in the work they are doing by raising money to support them.”

Almost £750 has been raised ahead of the charity effort.
