Live Here Love Here grants available for east Antrim residents

The scheme aims to financially support community based environmental projects across Northern Ireland who need financial support to maintain their efforts for creating a cleaner, greener and safer place to live.

Residents across Larne and Carrickfergus are being encouraged to apply, with successful applicants receiving a grant between £500 to £3,000.

Live Here Love Here’s Small Grants Scheme helps communities to instil civic pride by providing practical support to volunteer projects that enhance and protect the environment and improve the health and wellbeing of community members.

Examples of volunteer activities include engaging young people to improve their local environment, transforming neglected spaces, reducing littering and dog fouling through community action and community food growing initiatives.

Larne Community Care Centre previously received aid through the Small Grants Scheme.

A spokesperson for the project said: “Receiving funding from Live Here Love Here gave the staff and children in our organisation a chance to look after our area through regular litter picks and planting which created a sense of achievement and pride in our community.

“We have continued to litter pick on a regular basis which shows that the benefits last beyond the duration of the grant and we now have further plans to improve our local area.”

Helen Tomb, Manager at Live Here Love Here commented: “Live Here Love Here’s supporters have made a real difference in their communities throughout the pandemic.

“Their efforts to nurture their local spaces have been inspiring. So far, we’ve been excited to see applications from innovative projects that support environmental challenges such as biodiversity recovery, pollution solutions and climate action.”
