Live Here Love Here grants available for Newtownabbey residents

Northern Ireland’s largest community and civic pride campaign, Live Here Love Here, has announced the return of its Small Grants Scheme in partnership with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

The scheme aims to financially support community based environmental projects across Northern Ireland who need financial support to maintain their efforts for creating a cleaner, greener and safer place to live.

Residents across Antrim and Newtownabbey are being encouraged to apply, with successful applicants receiving a grant between £500 to £3,000.

Live Here Love Here’s Small Grants Scheme helps communities to instil civic pride by providing practical support to volunteer projects that enhance and protect the environment and improve the health and wellbeing of community members.

Examples of volunteer activities include engaging young people to improve their local environment, transforming neglected spaces, reducing littering and dog fouling through community action and community food growing initiatives.

Monkstown Village Garden in Newtownabbey has previously received aid through the Small Grants Scheme.

A spokesperson for the Monkstown-based group said: “We at Monkstown Village Garden greatly appreciate the financial support Live Here Love Here and their partner groups give us.

“It helps us to continue to serve our community and has allowed us to create a safe and welcoming outdoor space for community gatherings. We have found this especially valuable in this Covid-19 pandemic.”

Helen Tomb, Manager at Live Here Love Here commented: “Live Here Love Here’s supporters have made a real difference in their communities throughout the pandemic.

“Their efforts to nurture their local spaces have been inspiring. So far, we’ve been excited to see applications from innovative projects that support environmental challenges such as biodiversity recovery, pollution solutions and climate action.”
