Mid and East Antrim diners tucked in to 220k ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ meals

Almost a quarter of a million meals were claimed in Mid and East Antrim as part of the recent ‘Eat Out, to Help Out’ scheme, according to government statistics.

Figures released by the Treasury have revealed a total of 219,000 meals were served in local businesses participating in the initiative during the month of August with bargain-loving diners saving just under £1.3m.

Welcoming the figures, the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston said: “It has been wonderful to see so many coming back out and supporting the fabulous range of local cuisine we have to offer around the borough.

“Hopefully, this has given people a real flavour of the many things to see and do across the area and will encourage them to come back for seconds.

“The continued success of our hospitality industry and public support for it is absolutely essential to the growth of the local economy and tourism sector and while Eat Out to Help Out may have now ended, I would encourage everyone to continue to enjoy the range of quality restaurants, cafes and eateries throughout Mid and East Antrim.”

Across the UK over 100 million meals were claimed under the scheme which provided diners with a state-backed 50% discount on meals and soft drinks up to £10 each on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday. Read here
