Mid Ulster couple take on third Camino challenge to raise £30,000 for suicide prevention charity

Magherafelt couple Eamon and Rosie Donnelly are preparing to undertake their third Camino pilgrimage in four years as they seek to raise a further £30,000 for ALPS (All Lives Are Precious), the Northern Ireland charity dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health support.

The fundraising challenge, entitled “Walking to Save Lives”, builds on the success of the couple’s previous Camino walks, which have already raised more than £60,000 for charitable causes.

This year, Eamon and Rosie are once again putting on their walking boots to support ALPS and its vital work helping individuals and families affected by mental health difficulties and suicide.

The couple have already raised over £18500 towards their £30,000 target thanks to the generosity of local businesses, sports clubs, friends, family members and supporters from across the community.

For Eamon and Rosie, the challenge is about much more than completing another long-distance walk.

“Every step we take is for someone who may be struggling, for families who have been affected by suicide, and for the incredible people working on the front line of mental health support,” they said.

“This will be our third Camino in four years and each journey reminds us how powerful communities can be when they come together behind an important cause. The support we have received has been truly humbling.

“We know that mental health challenges can affect anyone. Through this challenge we hope not only to raise much-needed funds for ALPS but also to encourage conversations, reduce stigma and let people know that help is available.”

Funds raised through the campaign will help ALPS continue delivering mental health awareness programmes, suicide prevention initiatives, community outreach, education and support services across Northern Ireland.

ALPS has become a leading voice in suicide prevention and mental health support, providing vital assistance to individuals and families while promoting awareness and early intervention throughout local communities.

Supporters are being encouraged to get behind the campaign by making a donation, sharing the fundraising page and helping spread the message that no one should face mental health challenges alone.

As they prepare for another Camino journey, the couple remain focused on their goal of raising £30,000 and making a meaningful difference through the life-saving work of ALPS.
