MLA calls for ‘Tell Us Once’ service for grieving families

Grieving relatives should not have to jump through unnecessary hoops when dealing with a loved one’s estate, according to East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson.

The Alliance representative claimed: “There is too much red tape for grieving relatives to navigate when a loved one passes away. The UK Government has instituted a ‘Tell Us Once’ service, that notifies most government organisations, from national to local authority, of the death of a person.

“There is no similar service available for Northern Ireland government organisations. I have therefore asked the Finance Minister to consider this as a possibility for Northern Ireland, as a way to help reduce the stress and upset associated with bereavement for relatives seeking to sort out loved ones’ estates.”
