Murals of Remembrance go on public outdoor display

Seven large murals, listing those from Portadown who have lost their lives in conflicts since the First World War, have been erected in the town centre.

Organised by local group Regenerate War Graves, it felt that, with the uncertainty around large public gatherings due to Covid-19 restrictions, Remembrance day will be a lot different.

“Regenerate War Graves felt that it was only right that we find another way to respectfully mark this occasion of ultimate human sacrifice in a respectful and fitting manner,” said a spokesperson.

“We commissioned seven 6x3ft murals listing all those from Portadown who lost their lives in all the major conflicts from the Great War through to those that have served in the more recent conflicts including Operation Banner and the Afghanistan campaign.

“These murals will be on public display for a period of time and can be viewed at the entrance of St Mark’s Church.

“Massive thanks to Loyal Art on their design, Instant Print for the printing and St Mark’s Church for allowing us to erect them on their railings, At the Going Down of the Sun, And in the Morning, We Will Remember Them.”
