Larne Lough Community Partnership was established last year with the aim of promoting community development in Tullygarley, Glynn, Magheramorne and surrounding areas.

The group says it aims to help residents bring about positive change in their communities and to better access the range of support and funding which is available for communities.

It plans to consult through a community survey once the current Covid-19 restrictions are lifted by going door to door.

“This survey will provide Larne Lough Community Partnership with information on the issues that are important to local people and will help them to develop projects to address these issues,” a spokesperson said.

The group has benefited from the advice of the Factory Community Forum in Larne. This body started a similar journey over 10 years ago and is now well established, delivering a full programme of activities and support throughout the year. The group has also received support through the Equip programme, which is managed by Intercomm and supported by the Executive Office’s Communities in Transition project.

Gareth McConnell of the Factory Community Forum said the Equip programme had supported the new partnership to develop a constitution, mission statement and policies and procedures.

“Members of the group will also be able to avail of a range of training in areas such as community development, youth work, mediation and project management. They will also receive support with their community survey.”

“The Equip programme also provides an opportunity for the group to undertake a funded social action project that will enable them to make a visible early impact across Tullygarley, Glynn and Magheramorne.  This will give the group valuable experience of managing a funded community project for the first time,” he explained.

The new Larne Lough Community Partnership has also established a Facebook page which provides information on the work of the group and how to get involved.
