Newtownabbey Foodbank celebrates official opening of new warehouse at Carnmoney Presbyterian Church site
A new chapter in the valuable work of Newtownabbey Foodbank has begun with the official opening of its new warehouse in the grounds of Carnmoney Presbyterian Church.
The new purpose-built central warehouse space will provide supplies for the four centres operated by the foodbank across Newtownabbey –Abbots Cross Presbyterian Church, Ballyclare Presbyterian Church, Carnmoney Presbyterian Church and Greencastle Methodist Church.
The foodbank has provided a total 43.203 food parcels since it started in 2015 – giving emergency food support to 25,364 adults and 17,839 children.
Much of the goods comes from a range of generous donors including the public and businesses.

The Newtownabbey Foodbank central store facility was previously located in what was known as the Hill Stores.

Fred McDowell, chair of the Newtownabbey Foodbank Management Committee, thanked all those who support the work of the foodbank in any way.
"Our thanks go to everybody who donates, thanks also to the congregations of local churches, businesses and customers of Tesco Northcott and ASDA Ballyclare who donate food which provides this essential support,” he said.
"The support the foodbank can provide is only possible due to the generosity of donors and also our 94 volunteers who give up their time to date check and weigh the food into the warehouse and welcome those who come into the centres for support.”
Food donations can be left at the warehouse on Mondays and Thursdays between 10am–12noon, or at collection points in Tesco Northcott and Asda Ballyclare.
