NI road reopened after man dies in early morning collision, second Co Antrim road fatality in 24 hours

Police have confirmed that a man has tragically died following the collision in Newtownabbey.

Inspector Paul McCarron said: “The collision was reported to us at 2.20am this morning involving a grey Ford Focus that was located in a field in the Upper Hightown Road area.

“Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene”.

Earlier the road was closed for officers to carry out their enquiries.

A PSNI statement has now revealed that the Upper Hightown Road, Newtownabbey has now reopened.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area this morning and captured what occurred on their dash cam to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 105 of 06/05/20,” he added.

Yesterday, another man died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision outside Ballymena.

The collision happened shortly after 3.15pm and involved a motorcycle and a tractor.

A PSNI spokesman said: “One man was taken to hospital for his injuries, but sadly lost his life. Another man was also taken to hospital for his injuries”.

The Cullybackey Road has just reopened, according to the PSNI.

The Upper Hightown Road, Newtownabbey has reopened following a collision in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, May 6th).
