'No excuses, bin it or take it home' - Mid Ulster councillor

Sinn Féin Councillor Brian McGuigan has urged people to stop disposing of rubbish within the community and to take all litter home or use the nearest available bin.

Member of Mid-Ulster District Council Environment Committee Councillor Brian McGuigan added: “Litter is unsightly and with recent concerns of broken glass from bottles deliberately smashed is often very difficult to clear up. There are no excuses, bin it or take it home.

“The litter strewn on our roadside, hedgegrows and streets are coming from those who are not disposing of their rubbish appropriately. We all need to take care of our environment”.

Councillor Brian McGuigan has praised the coordinated and well organised litter picks recently carried out by the volunteers of Watty Graham’s GAC, Sleacht Néill GAC, Carntogher Community Association and all the groups that are involved with the ‘Big Spring Clean’ throughout the Carntogher area.

Mid Ulster District Council is encouraging residents to organise or get involved in a ‘Big Spring Clean’ in their area.

The Carntogher elected representative said: “The Council will support community groups, sports clubs or schools carrying out a ‘Big Spring Clean’ by loaning litter pickers, providing bin bags and by collecting and disposing of the rubbish afterwards. The message is clear but unfortunately not getting through to a minority who continue to show disregard to the environment we live in: “Think carefully and be considerate of local communities; take your litter home”.
