The orgnaisers of Parkrun events have contacted Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council to advise of the proposed return of the athletic meets across the region later this month.

Parkrun is hosted in three venues across the borough on council premises; V36/Valley Park, Antrim Loughshore Park and Sixmilewater Park in Ballyclare.

The issue was noted in the agenda for last night’s Operations Committee meeting.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “Due to public health restrictions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, the weekly Parkrun events have not taken place since March 2020.

“Following the easing of restrictions, Parkrun officials have now contacted council to advise of a proposed return to weekly events from June 26.”
