Plans also include service road and footpaths, culverting, landscaping proposals and other ancillary works.

According to an accompanying Design and Access Statement, the dwellings will be located within the development limits of Ballycastle and within the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and within easy walking and cycling distance of local and regional bus routes, the beach, golf course and shore walks.

It is also a 10-minute walk from Ballycastle town centre and all its public amenities, while major hub towns of Ballymena and Coleraine are within a 30-minute drive of the site with Belfast and Derry a further 30 minutes away.

“Ballycastle town centre contains a majority of shops with some offices and light industry,” the statement added. “Large sports fields are also available in this area.”

“The town is well situated for commuting to the major regional towns on Coleraine, Ballymena and further afield.

“To the north of the site are lies the Ballycastle Golf Club, Mothers Goose Playgroup and Ballycastle Day Care and to the north east, is the Bonamargy Friary.

“To the west is the Salthouse Hotel and a large area of open space located outside the development limit, and to the south lies another large area of rural countryside.”

As a major application, the plans will be presented to members during a future Planning Committee meeting for decision.
