Police urge Covid-19 regulations adherence ahead of Rathcoole parades

Cloughfern Young Conquerors are scheduled to parade at noon from the Eastway Social Club on a route including Rathcoole Drive before returning to the Eastway Social Club. A total of 60 participants are expected to take part in the demonstration.

Pride of the Hill Carnmoney Flute Band and Rathcoole Protestant Boys are also set to march in the estate from 1pm.

Both bands have submitted a proposed outward route of Innis Avenue, Derrycoole Way, Glenbain Avenue, Kylemore Bend, Inniscarn Drive, Mournbeg Drive, Owenreagh Drive, East Way, Green End, Ardmillan Drive, Green Walk, Rathmore Drive, Carmeen Drive, Carnreagh Bend, Derrycoole Way and Innis Avenue.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Parades Commission said: “The commission has considered notifications for three parades in Rathcoole on Saturday, May 1 from Cloughfern Young Conquerors Flute Band,Pride of the Hill Carnmoney Flute Band and Rathcoole Protestant Boys.

“As outlined in its statutory guidelines the commission has considered all the relevant factors and does not deem it necessary to impose any conditions on these parades. These decisions do not, however, confer approval for any parade that may be in breach of current Covid-19 regulations.

“The commission has informed the organisers that responsibility for compliance with current Covid-19 regulations and the public health risks of the parade are the responsibility of the organiser. The commission has advised the organisers to consult with all relevant authorities regarding such public health risks. The enforcement of Covid-19 regulations is a matter for the PSNI.”

Commenting on the planned parades, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are aware of notified band parades in Rathcoole on Saturday, May 1. We would appeal to anyone who is planning an event to adhere to the current Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations and play their part in slowing the spread of this virus and help everyone stay safe and save lives.

“Events and incidents breaching the Health Protection Regulations, or other legislation, will be investigated.”
