Poppy Appeal boxes now available in shops

The Poppy Appeal will not be conducting door to door or street collections this year due to Covid-19 restrictions but other means of donating are available.

A spokesman for the Royal British Legion Portadown Branch said: “These new restrictions have been put in place to help reduce the spread of coronavirus and to help manage the pressures on our health and social care system and to keep people safe.

“The Royal British Legion Portadown Branch would like to thank all those who have donated to our annual Poppy Appeal over the years.

“Unfortunately, due of the current restrictions in place as directed by TRBL and local government concerning reducing the spread of Covid-19, the Royal British Legion will be unable to do any house to house or street collecting this year.

“However it is still important that Portadown continues its generosity in giving to this very worthy cause to the same degree as in previous years, as the number of veterans requiring assistance is growing as times get tougher than ever.

Poppies will be available with collection boxes in the usual shops and businesses as in previous years and from manned stalls outside Tesco and Asda from November 2-7 from 10am to 4pm daily.

“The Poppy Shop in Thomas Street has been open from October 26 and will remain open from 11am to 5pm for the sale of Poppies, crosses, wreaths, latest enamel badges and brooches, Poppy facemasks and many other remembrance items to raise money for the Appeal. If you wish to ring first to check if your requirement is in stock, ring Shirley on 07851 213 798. All Covid-19 restrictions will be adhered to.
