Post Office in High Street Mall closes but temporary branch to open soon

A Portadown Post Office has closed after the landlord asked for the premises to be vacated with discussions ongoing on opening a new branch.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said the office in High Street Mall was closed on Friday last.

She said: “Portadown Post Office closed on Friday (21/8), which was beyond our control, as the landlord asked for the premises to be vacated. We apologise for any inconvenience that this temporary closure may cause.

“Discussions has already been underway to relocate the branch to a new location - Magowan West Shopping Centre, 23 West Street, Portadown, BT62 3PL.

“To restore service to the area as soon as possible the branch will open on 2 September. We will be asking for feedback about the new location at the same time.

“In the meantime alternative Post Offices include Woodside, Brownstown Road and Killycomain.”

Local MP Carla Lockhart said: “The restoration of the full suite of post office services in the town centre will be welcomed, and in the meantime Post Offices are available on Brownstown Road, Killycomain and Woodside.

“I look forward to the new Post Office opening. Many town centres have lost their Post Office in recent years so it is good that this will serve the town centre and wider community moving forward.”
