Probus Club continues to raise money for charity despite lockdown

Despite the Covid-19 lockdown, Lisburn Probus Club has still been doing all it can to raise money for charity and recently presented a cheque for £1000 to the Welcome Organisation.

“In February Kieran Hughes spoke at a Lisburn Probus Club meeting about the work of the Welcome Organisation,” explained Probus Club President Maurice Hobson.

“They are involved with street work in Belfast with the homeless and also have a drop-in centre in Townsend Street and provide crisis accommodation for women.

“Normally during June Lisburn Probus Club holds a Ladies Luncheon, In late June we decided to hold a virtual ladies lunch, which was provided by Jane McCambley, caterer at Lisburn Golf Club, and was delivered around the homes of members.

“As lockdown restrictions had eased some members were able to join together for lunch and as it was a beautiful day many were able to dine outdoors. Lady Mary Peters joined one of the groups as our special guest.

“A charity auction was held via WhatsApp, auctioning off a series of cartoons sketched by our Vice President Fred Hughes and they reflected activities of our members during lockdown.”
