It follows the shock announcement last month that the Shore Road care home, which housed 36 residents, is to close.

Upwards of 60-70 members of the public attended the event on March 13, along with local political representatives John Stewart MLA and councillors Peter Johnson, Marc Collins and Bobby Hadden.

“It was great to see such a large turnout of family members, dedicated staff and members of the public all committed to saving this wonderful home,” said Ravenhill’s activity coordinator, Christina Beggs.

“Ravenhill has been at the heart of the local community for many years and the wonderful management and staff have continually gone above and beyond the call of duty to care for their residents.

“For the residents, this is their home; they moved in thinking this was somewhere they could see out the rest of their days.

“On Friday night there was a collective will to do whatever needed to be done to save the home and a contingency group has been established to look at different options.

“It is essential we all work together to find a positive outcome especially with the real concerns around coronavirus.”

An online petition to save the home, addressed to Health Minister Robin Swann, has attracted upwards of 3500 signatures since going live earlier this month.

It is understood a number of residents have already moved to alternative accommodation.
