Residents invited to apply for funding to celebrate VE Day anniversary

​Community groups across Mid and East Antrim have been invited to apply for grant funding to celebrate Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

This year’s May Bank Holiday will move from Monday, May 4 to Friday, May 8 to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Mid and East Antrim Council is offering grants to help constituted groups within the borough to celebrate the hugely significant occasion, with anything from small community events to medium celebrations considered for funding.

For small events with up to 500 people, the council is offering 75 percent funding up to a maximum of £1,000.

Medium-sized events can receive 50 percent of funding up to a maximum of £2,500.

Events must take place between May 1 to May 11, 2020.

Mid and East Antrim Veterans Champion, Alderman John Carson said: “We’re proud to be able to allocate specific funding for local groups to celebrate VE Day in 2020.

“This anniversary marks such a vital milestone in our history and I welcome the council’s commitment that it is remembered and celebrated as such."
