Robert Burns’ links to Co Antrim to be explored

The influence of Scottish Bard Robert Burns on Co Antrim will be the focus for an online presentation by local historian Dr David Hume MBE on January 26.

At least one of the Antrim Weaver Poets visited Burns in Alloway, while most of them, including Ballycarry Bard James Orr, wrote tributes to him and were influenced by his works.

Burns also had family connections in east Antrim and interest in his works resulted in formation of Burns Clubs here as in many other areas.

Part of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Good Relations Programme, the online Burns Night event on January 26 will also include storytelling from Liz Weir MBE, who is storyteller in residence for Libraries NI and well-known in the local area.

Folk music group An Corraiste will also be performing.

The evening is part of the council’s Hear Hear programme and will be held online via Zoom.
