The beating heart of the community 
during lockdown

From collecting prescriptions, checking on those shielding, delivering groceries, or bringing cheer to local people, community groups have proven to be invaluable.

In the south of the city, Ballymacash Regeneration Network set up a specific Ballymacash Covid -19 Response plan, together with other local organisations and statutory bodes, which sprung into action on March 18, 2020.

Throughout this time approximately 40 food parcels were delivered per week which means to date over 1440 have been distributed in the area.

Over the last year the group has delivered Easter packs for children and a socially distanced visit from the Easter Bunny, fresh vegetable packs for the elderly, transformed Edenvale Subway to honour Captain Tom in partnership with Ballymcash Cutural Awareness project, delivered Halloween packs to local kids, and helped to celebrate Christmas with the delivery of meals and hampers.

Most recently the group delivered stew to mark St Patrick’s Day.

This is just a tiny sample of everything the group has done for local people throughout the year of lockdown and proves just how strong a community can be in the face of adversity.
