Top prizes if you are in tune with festive favourites

A FACEBOOK group dedicated to keeping memories of the borough alive is hoping for a bumper response to their now annual Christmas quiz from Larnians across the world.

The cross-community Memories of Larne group has attracted more than 2,300 global members since it was set up in 2009.

Part of the attraction seems to be that there’s always someone online to talk to and with more than 5,000 photographs uploaded, it’s the ideal way for those with a Larne connection to take a trip down memory lane.

The Memories of Larne administration team tasked with ensuring the smooth running of the site are Larne’s Fiona Holland (nee Kelly), Liam Kelly and Joe Gillespie.

Fiona said: “The Memories of Larne group on facebook is great fun and our members tell us all the time about how much they enjoy the site.

“It’s for people who live in the town or who used to live here and want to share their memories of Larne and district.”

The popular group has once again organised a Christmas competition, this time with a festive music theme. Last year’s quiz was won by an ex-Larne man now living in Australia.

“Our Christmas quiz was so popular last year we are making it an annual event,” said Fionia.

Quizmaster Joe has been busy putting together a list of Christmas-inspired songs for the competition.

You will have to identify each song after hearing just one word and then you will be asked questions about the song or the singer.

Joe has gone right back to the war time to source some of the tunes, so you can get the whole family involved in this bit of festive fun.

The competition will run from noon on December 15 to noon on Christmas Eve.
