Due to COVID19 restrictions, the Chamber was unable to host their annual Christmas lunch, however it was felt, the Toy Appeal must continue as the need to support local families was greater than ever.

A number of local businesses volunteered as collection points for donations and the appeal was promoted on social media. Donations of toys and vouchers for older kids were also encouraged to be purchased from local Lisburn retailers. Over 1000 toys and gifts were donated to Barnardo’s services based in Lisburn for families living in the local community. In addition £2350 was donated from a number of local businesses including Down Royal Racecourse and Haldane & Fisher.

Chamber President, Garry MacDonald commented: “It was terrific to see our toy appeal initiative continuing for a fifth year. 2020 was an unprecedented year for businesses and the impact of the pandemic on the local community has been huge. The local business community, helped this year by the public, stepped up yet again and showed their tremendous generosity in donating to this worthy cause.”

Roberta Marshall, Children’s Services Manager at Barnardo’s NI said: “Each year we are overwhelmed by the generosity from the members of Lisburn Chamber of Commerce and this Christmas we were over the moon to receive so many toys and gifts. The past year has been particularly difficult for many children and families, due to the impact of Covid-19 and so the support from the public and Lisburn Chamber of Commerce is appreciated more than ever.”
