He was much loved by his wife Margaret, sons Simon, Michael and Gareth and extended family.

Dr Baird had a long association with Roddensvale School, serving on the Board of Governors for many years until he retired in 2013.

Dr Baird served as Chair of Governors in the latter years until his retirement when the current Chair, Mrs Maxwell, took over.

A spokesperson for the Larne-based school said: “Alongside former Chair of Governors, Mr Austin Heatley, Dr Baird was at the fore of many of the recent changes in Roddensvale School, from the new build in 2005 to the long campaign for hydrotherapy provision at the school.

“He gave many years of distinguished and selfless service to the school and our sympathies are with his widow, sons and the entire family circle.”
