Tributes paid to young Larne man Lee Barry after road crash death

Emotional tributes have been paid following the death of Lee Barry after a road traffic collision in Larne last night (Monday).

Emergency services were called to the Mill Brae area of the town at around 11.30pm following the single-vehicle collision.

A PSNI spokesperson said: ”The male who sadly died was the driver of the vehicle.”

The man has been named locally as Lee Barry.

Tributes have poured in on social media today for the talented footballer and DJ.

Expressing shock, a spokesperson for Larne Tech Old Boys FC said: “Everyone at our club is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of our player, Lee Barry.

“A lovely guy and very well thought of by his team mates.

“Our thoughts from everyone at LTOB go out to his mum, family and friends.”

Passing condolences to Lee’s family, a spokesperson for Wellington Rec FC said: “On behalf of our club chairman, committee members, coaching staff, players, club members and supporters of Wellington Rec FC, our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to Ali Barry and family circle on the tragic passing of Lee Barry. May he rest in peace.”

Larne resident, Bill Guiller had known Mr Barry for a number of years. Paying tribute to the young man on Facebook, he said: “Lee Barry, I watched you grow from a kid in nursery with my boys to a grown man, through school, Larne Youth - you were a great talent who also attended the Arsenal Academy with my son and like I say into adulthood.

“Would you ever pass me without speaking, no. You are going to be missed by so many. My thoughts are with your family circle. It is a sad, sad day.”
