Tyrone singer Malachi Cush aims to give back to the those who 'put him together again'

The aptly named song is a fitting tribute to the current challenging times with poignant lyrics that people from all walks of life can relate to.

The Donaghmore man has surpassed his original fundraising target of £2,000 having raised a phenomenal £2,660 so far for the two charity funds with donations continuing to sweep in.

As well as valiantly supporting the NI NHS during it’s present hardships, the country music singer has chosen to support the front line medical staff at Air Ambulance NI.

This charity has been close to Malachi’s heart since receiving treatment from them in June 2019 after a road traffic collision.

Malachi had taken a garden strimmer to Trotter’s Hardware Store in Dungannon, where himself and the store owner, Andrew Trotter where working outside to fix the strimmer when they were both hit by an unattended car which had rolled down Scotch Street.

The Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) were dispatched to the scene.

After a brief assessment of both patients, Dr Darren Monaghan (HEMS, Clinical Lead) and Paramedic Gelnn O’Rorke (HEMS, Operational Lead) noted that Malachi had sustained

injuries to his lower legs and knee, a deep cut on his chin, a tooth knocked out and cuts to the head. Andrew also had cuts to the face as well as a serious elbow injury.

Andrew was brought to Craigavon Area Hospital while the HEMS team transported Malachi to the Royal Victoria Hospital via road ambulance. Malachi spent a couple of weeks in RVH

following his accident and continues to attend a rehab clinic there for his ongoing recovery. Andrew has since got a ‘new’ elbow fitted. Malachi says: “Just last weekend I had planned to join Mid Ulster council in a fundraising concert for the Air Ambulance, for obvious reasons that has been postponed and it’s impossible to know when we can think of holding a fundraising concert again. So I thought I could release this music video for my song ‘Nothing seems Right’ alongside a go fund me page to raise funds for both AANI and NHS.

"As we approach a year since my accident I continue to be indebted to Air Ambulance NI and the NI NHS who gave me such speedy and professional care at the scene and who continue to through the rehab clinic I attend at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital. I am so grateful for the way they have ‘put me back together again’ both physically and mentally.

"I think people are appreciating now more than ever the tremendous efforts that our front line workers go to, to care for their patients and I am so so grateful to all of those who have taken time to donate to the go fund me page, once again I’ve been blown away by the generosity and kindness of friends, family and even those whom I’ve never met. My hope is that the music video for ‘Nothing seems right’ touches people and that this four-week campaign can do some good."

Air Ambulance NI is a local charity that provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service for Northern Ireland, together with its partners at the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

It needs to raise £2 each year to maintain this service and fundraising has been impacted severely by COVID-19.
