VIDEO: Kirsty Moffett laid to rest in home village after New Zealand tragedy

The funeral has taken place of a young physio from Northern Ireland who was killed in a New Zealand road collision earlier this month.

Kirsty Moffett, 28, from Waringstown near Lurgan, had been working in Dunedin Hospital on New Zealand’s South Island for the last two years.

The former Banbridge High School and Banbridge Academy pupil was well-known as a former physio for Dromore Rugby Club, and through her connections with both Lisburn and Banbridge athletic clubs.

Minister Stuart Hawthorne said he was “thanking God for her life”.

“This has been such a difficult time for the family,” he said, adding that “words had been hard to come by”.

“We weep and we mourn with you all, but not as those without hope.

“Because we believe with you that Jesus is indeed the resurrection and the life, and Kirsty’s hope was firmly settled in him.”

Kirsty’s uncle, Rev Adrian Moffett, has described his niece as “someone who had a heart for others and time for everyone”, who “would try to help every person she could”.

Rev Moffett added: “She was very much involved in her home church, Waringstown Presbyterian, and then with the Grace Church in Dunedin.

“She was a youth leader there since she went out just under two years ago. She just enriched the lives of everyone she came into contact with.”

Monday’s funeral service took place at Waringstown Presbyterian Church.

A number of people paid their respects as the cortege passed through Donaghcloney and Waringstown.

According to a notice on www.funeraltimes.com, a “service of worship, giving thanks for Kirsty’s life” will be live-streamed from Waringstown Presbyterian at 6.30pm on Monday evening.
