Watch: Video of Larne photographer goes viral after being shared by Shane Todd

A video of a Larne FC photographer, who was recorded in a spot of difficulty after a prankster tied his laces to a fence during a recent Irish League game, has been viewed over 700,000 times since it was shared on social media.

The clip of Larne man Bill Guiller was uploaded to Twitter and Facebook on April 16 before being shared by Northern Irish comedian Shane Todd on Tuesday.

Since the video showing the photographer attempting to stand up after getting pictures from the Larne v Warrenpoint game at Inver Park was shared by the popular Co Down comedian, it has amassed over 700,000 views on his Twitter alone, with tens of thousands of views on other social media channels.

The Holywood man shared the clip in the wake of the announcement that 12 teams, including the ‘big six’ from the English Premier League, were in talks to form a ‘European Super League’.

Posting it on April 20, Todd who has over 24,000 followers on Twitter, said: “Last weekend in Larne someone tied a photographer’s shoelace to a fence without him knowing.

“There already is a ‘Super League’. It’s called the Irish League.”

Since Shane shared the video, plans for the proposed ESL appear to have been scrapped after nine of the 12 clubs, including the English-based sides, withdrew from the discussions.

Speaking to the Larne Times, Mr Guiller said he was glad that the clip, showing “Irish League banter in a good light” had received such a good reception online.

Bill said: “I’ve been taking pictures for years, but only started taking them at pitch side since Kenny Bruce took over.

“I’m delighted the video went viral as it shows basically the Irish League banter in a good light.

“As for the European Super League, kicking it into touch was the right way. Football is for the fans. This is the main reason why I love the Irish League and amateur league football.

“I would always encourage local football, whether it’s the Irish League, youth or amateur levels. It is played with a bit more passion- the way football in England used to be.”
