Rosemary Magill, CEO of the Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey group said: “Domestic abuse can happen to anyone irrespective of age, ethnicity, religion, social class, gender identity, sexual orientation or any form of disability. Women from marginalised groups are often confronted by additional barriers to disclosing and accessing support for domestic abuse.

“Last year Women’s Aid supported 508 black, Asian and minority ethnic women (BAME), and 42 women and 44 children with no recourse to public funds were supported in our refuges. Some 2,557 women were identified as having a disability or additional support needs, and 47 women who identified as LGBTQ+ were supported across our services.

"We provide support for all women, and we believe that services should be open and accessible to anyone affected by domestic abuse.
