World Ju-Jitsu Federation Ireland Signs White Ribbon Charter

World Ju-Jitsu Federation Ireland has joined with Women’s Aid ABCLN to mark UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and take part in 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence by signing the White Ribbon Charter.

The White Ribbon Campaign is a global movement to end male violence against women and send out the message that male violence against women is unacceptable.

Anne Toney from The Dojo, Ballymena said: “This has been such a challenging year for everyone and with the increase in violence against women that has been happening during the lockdown, we know that raising awareness is vital.”

Master Jayne Cooke of WJJF-WJJKO’s International Females Board, came together with Anne and members at The Dojo, Ballymena to sign the White Ribbon Charter.

Masters Alison McNeilly and Lorraine Gault will also be supporting the campaign in their areas.

Anne said: “Signing the charter means we pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women. Please join us, both male and female members, and make the promise.”

Women’s Aid ABCLN White Ribbon Co-ordinator, Tahnee McCorry said: “With one in four women affected by domestic abuse in their lifetime, staying silent is not an option. We aim to create a society where all women can live in safety, free from violence and abuse.”
