Inspirational mum Aine Beatty has been running the Down’s syndrome support group Down’s and Proud since the birth of her son Jay 10 years ago.

Aine set up the group to lend support to other parents whose children were born with Down’s syndrome,

The group began as a small coffee morning for mums in Aine’s house and has now grown to include a two week summer scheme, weekly coffee mornings in the Jethro Centre and now speech clubs on a Saturday morning.

As well as running the group Aine also holds down a full time job as a system’s analyst in Ben Sherman.

She said: “The group is making a huge difference to Jay’s life as well as the other children and parents in the Lurgan area.”

Aine said she started the group because she wanted to raise awareness about Down’s syndrome and to help eradicate the stigma that people attach to it: “The more awareness we can create about Down’s syndrome means a a greater inclusion 
for all,” she said.
