Personal alarms from Age NI

Age NI is encouraging more elderly people in the East Antrim area to make use of the personal alarm system they provide.

The personal alarms are a paid for service, with the charity benefitting from the sale of each alarm.

The new charity combines Age Concern NI and Help the Aged in Northern Ireland, and currently there are around 8,000 people using one of their personal alarms. At the touch of a button on a pendant or bracelet, the user can have assistance at any time of the day or night.

This gives them and their family members peace of mind that if they fall or have an accident in their home, help will be on hand quickly.

Mervyn Dickson works as a local installer for Age NI’s personal alarm service in the Larne, Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus region. He believes that the personal alarms help to improve a persons confidence.

“I meet so many people who just need a little bit of help at home. Knowing that there is someone at the touch of a button, just in case, can make a huge difference to a person’s outlook and confidence,” he said.
