Phil’s 60th raises £3K for Friends of Cancer Centre

WHEN Coleraine woman, Phil Montgomery, asked friends and family for donations to her favourite charity instead of birthday presents, little did she know that she would more than double her initial target of £1,500.

The big hearted 60-year-old organised the knees up at the Montra club in Coleraine on Saturday, March 4th, and collected a staggering £3,007 for Friends of the Cancer Centre.

The charity so close to her heart provides residential care for patients undergoing cancer treatment at the City Hospital, Belfast, and were represented on the night by Cancer Centre fundraiser, Kelly Graham.

Speaking to The Times, Phil said she overwhelmed at the generosity of people at the event.

“I decided to raise funds for the Friends of Cancer Centre, City Hospital, Belfast because several of my family and friends have used it during the course of their treatments and they have found the Centre and Staff to be very friendly,” she said.

“A great night was had by all who attended and I would like to thank everyone who supported and helped me in any way - especially Morris Moffett and his band, the McNicholl Bros. Irish Dancers and Eugene Lagan for doing Play Your Cards Right.”
