PICTURE GALLERY: Another successful night for annual Cancer Research UK parade

TWENTY-THREE bands attended the annual Cancer Research UK charity band parade in Ballymoney on Saturday night - a turnout that more than pleased the organisers.

In ideal weather conditions, the parade was preceded by a cavalcade of vehicles organised by Ballymoney Old Vehicle Club whose presence always adds to the atmosphere and general attraction.

Volunteers helped swell the coffers of this annual event by organising a door-to-door collection as well as on the street and on the night of the parade, a further collection is taken up.

Mr. Mervyn Ferris from the Ballymoney branch of Cancer Research, received an unexpected donation from the Park Flute Band in Armoy. Mr. John Murray said the band could not make it but their gesture of financial support was greatly appreciated by the organisers.

One of the great traditions of the parade is the acknowledgement of Mrs. Molly Holmes who for decades worked tirelessly to raise funds for Cancer Research.

Mrs. Holmes, who will celebrate her 96th birthday in a couple of weeks time, took her usual position outside her home in Charlotte Street and received much acclaim from visiting bands some of whom stopped to greet her as well as shake hands.
