Ballyastle Creidt Union are celebrating 45 years since their formation and membership is at a very healthy level. Indeed, new branches were opened in Bushmills and Cushendall and the Union are delighted with the response from schools in their 'Common Bond' area.

Rathlin Island, Straidbilly and Armoy are amongst those who have signed up as savers and the aim is to educate young people into handling their finances better.

Selma McMullan explained: "If we can encourage children from an early age to save with us, then we instill in them a discipline as far as managing their finances.

"We have had a great response from schools and we would urge other schools to think about what is on offer. Not only do they get interest but everyone who joins under the age of 70 gets automatic life insurance policy."
