PICTURE GALLERY: Multi-cultural showcase success

BALLYMONEY Town Hall came alive on Saturday 12th June with singing, dancing, music, crafts, food, photos and even a lion!

It was the Ballymoney Multi-Cultural Showcase, a lively cultural afternoon of entertainment and fun. The afternoon commenced with 3 young skilful dancers from the Laverty School of Irish Dancing. Next the audience watched a graceful traditional Indonesian dance in which the Mayor of Ballymoney participated, to the delight of the audience! This was then followed by a fantastic and exhilarating Chinese Lion Dance which resulted in the audience being covered in lettuce! After all that excitement, calmness was restored through a delightful performance by Eimear Hughes on the Celtic Harp.

The audience were then treated to a wonderful authentic Indian lunch provided by the renown Fab Kebab in Coleraine, whilst having an opportunity to purchase traditional Indonesian crafts and view a photo exhibition by a Polish photographer resident in Northern Ireland.

The second half of the show was opened by the Dunloy CCE (Dun Lathai) who performed beautiful traditional Irish music and singing. This was then followed by an exciting Indian Bollywood dancer. To wrap up the day, were the lively Scottish Country Dancers who included the Blue Belles, The Ever Greens and the Clan Dancers.

All in all it was a fun, lively day showcasing the many traditional cultures that exist in and around the Ballymoney area. The day was funded through Ballymoney Borough's Good Relations Programme and Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Ballymoney Community Resource Centre's Ethnic Minority Support Worker, Lee Millen organised the event and was delighted with how the day went. Lyn Moffett, manager at BCRC, commented that BCRC was very happy with the reception the performers received from the audience. It was wonderful to see such a diverse audience enjoying such diverse performers.
