Pink snowfall in Eglinton

GARDENING-MAD couple Winston and Joan Winters, from Ashburn Park in Eglinton are surprised and delighted by their garden once again this year.

Last year they watched bemused as hundreds of tiny frogs marched all over their back garden - having first turned their ornamental pond into a frothing tadpole soup for several weeks.

This year it’s their trees that are causing the merriment.

In particular it is their cherry trees, which are shedding so many petals all at once that the front lawn has turned a delicate shade of pink.

“One day we had a lovely spring green garden and today the cherry blossom has turned the lawn completely pink,” said Joan.

“I’ve never seen the petals come down in such profusion. It’s like it’s been snowing only the grass is pink and not white,” she said.
