“The World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow is undoubtedly the biggest stage were the world’s finest and most skilful pipe bands compete every year and I was delighted that once again our local bands in Mid Ulster were not found wanting and have returned back to Northern Ireland with their heads held high,” said the assembly member.

“I pay tribute to local bands Ballybriest Pipe Band who came 5th in Grade 3A, Matt Boyd Memorial who finished 4th in Grade 3B and Tullylagan Pipe Band who made the final grade. I applaud the clear dedication of all these bands and it is clear to see that their futures are bright.”

“Congratulations are also warranted to Alicia Dickson-Hamilton of Matt Boyd Memorial Pipe Band who finished 5th in the Adult Drum Major category.

“Being a member of a pipe band is without doubt something that requires a huge commitment and I know I can speak for Mid Ulster in reflecting our pride and admiration to all those from Mid Ulster who took part at the World Championships, whether in their own bands or participating for another.”
