Pipers head to world competition

World Pipe Band Champions, Lisburn’s Field Marshall Montgomery, are preparing for another show-stealing success at the world’s biggest ever week of piping and traditional music, Piping Live!, which is taking place in Glasgow from August 11-17.

The most successful pipe band of all time, from Northern Ireland, is competing in The World Pipe Band Championships, which will take place in Glasgow for the first time ever. The famous pipe band will perform in a bid to retain its ‘World Champion’ title for the fourth year in a row.

Over 50,000 spectators, many from Northern Ireland, are expected to travel to Glasgow to watch Field Marshall Montgomery at The Wold Pipe Band Championships as well as a host of other events during the week long programme of exciting performances at Piping Live! Glasgow’s International Piping Festival’s 10th birthday. Field Marshall Montgomery will join 31 other Pipe bands from Northern Ireland.

Glasgow is set to become the heart of the piping world, with over 200 bands and 8,000 musicians from 11 countries performing at a range of events taking place around the clock. Daily highlights include Pipe Idol and Pipe Band Parades.
