Planners delay decision on Manse Road development

PLANNING approval for a new housing development on the Manse Road has been put on hold due to the strength of opposition to the plan, the Times can reveal.

The application by PBN Property Ltd could see 13 apartments built on a site at 117 Manse Road, next to the BP filling station and Spar store.

Although the site has already been levelled, the planning application proposes “demolition of existing building and erection of residential development consisting of 13 units with associated car parking and landscaping.”

While Planning Service have recommended an approval decision, they agreed to a request from alderman Paul Girvan at the council’s March Planning Committee meeting that a final decision should be deferred pending an office meeting to hear ‘third party concerns’. It is understood that those concerns relate to the density of the planned scheme and potential traffic issues.

Planning Service have confirmed that there have been 60 objections to the proposed development, which is opposite Mossley Primary School.

A spokesperson for Planning Service confirmed that a meeting to discuss objectors’ concerns was held last week, adding that “the points raised are being considered.”
