Planners of opinion to refuse single dwelling and detached garage development at Haw Road, Bushmills

PLANNERS are of the opinion to refuse Mr L Halliday's proposal for a single dwelling and detached garage 35 metres south west of 22 Haw Road, Bushmills.

Planners say it has not been demonstrated the proposed new building is visually linked or sited to cluster with an established group of buildings on the farm.

And they say the site is unable to provide a suitable degree of enclosure for the building to integrate into the landscape and the proposed building is a prominent feature in the landscape and therefore would not integrate into this area of the countryside.

Planners have also argued that if the building were permitted it would be unduly prominent in the landscape and the building would result in a suburban style build-up of development when viewed with existing buildings. This would result in a detrimental change to the rural character of the countryside.

And they say that If permitted the site would adversely affect the setting of the Giant’s Causeway World Heritage Site.

The planners added that insufficient information has been submitted to enable determination of the planning application as the archaeological evaluation requested by the Department has not been made available.

Finally, planners stated that the proposed dwelling is not located within an existing cluster of development.
